Clarence - Thirty Days and Seven Seas

Following the success of "Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake," our team at SleepNinja Games embarked on a new project with Cartoon Network Games: "Clarence: Thirty Days and Seven Seas." This game, inspired by the "Clarence" TV show, particularly the episode 'Breen Ho!,' took players on a swashbuckling adventure as the kids navigated a pirate-themed board game.
As the head writer, my task was to capture the show's quirky humor and heartwarming essence. However, this project brought a new challenge: directing voice-over for the first time. We were fortunate to work with a stellar cast, including Tom Kenny, Jim Cummings, Eric Edelstein, and Candi Milo. Bringing the script to life through their voices was an incredible experience. Hearing my writing transformed by such talented actors was an awesome feeling, adding depth and personality to the characters.
The technical aspect of integrating voice-over with the game's dialogue presented its own set of challenges and excitement. Using an XML-based dialogue engine, we meticulously programmed the voice lines to sync seamlessly with the in-game text and animations. This process was both fun and fascinating, offering a new layer of storytelling and immersion.
"Clarence: Thirty Days and Seven Seas" was a delightful project that expanded my skills as a writer and director. Working with the show team, who were so down to earth and just delighted that they got to make a video games (a feeling that was very mutual) was a highlight of my career. It was a joy to contribute to the world of "Clarence" and create an engaging, pirate-themed adventure for fans of the show. The experience of working with such talented voice actors and the Cartoon Network Games team was as lovely as the first time, showcasing the power of collaboration and creative storytelling.
